Trailer Released for Richard Linklater’s Blue Moon

According to Cinemadrame News Agency, Sony Pictures Classics has released the first trailer for Blue Moon, starring Ethan Hawke. The film, which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival, will be released in Los Angeles and New York on October 17, and nationwide in the U.S. on October 24.

Named after the famous song by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart, the film follows two American songwriters in the 1930s on the opening night of the Broadway musical Oklahoma!. Margaret Qualley, Andrew Scott, and Bobby Cannavale also star in Blue Moon. Robert Kaplow, who previously collaborated with Linklater on Me and Orson Welles, wrote the screenplay. Linklater serves as a producer alongside John Sloss.

At Berlin, Hawke spoke about the challenges of creating provocative art in today’s world:
“To make offensive art, the audience has to care. It doesn’t sell. You—the filmmaking community—have to make people care. For offensive art to have a place in the conversation, it must be valued. When money is prioritized above all else, the result is art that appeals to the masses. It’s a dance we all participate in together. If you like offensive art, demand it, because people assume it won’t sell.”

Blue Moon will be released on October 24.
