Weapons Prequel in the Works

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, New Line Cinema has begun early talks to produce a follow-up to Weapons, directed by Zach Cregger. The film opened last weekend, earning $70 million worldwide in its first three days.
No details about the sequel’s plot have been revealed, and the extent of Cregger’s involvement remains unclear. However, Deadline reports that a friend of the director-writer has pitched an idea for the sequel — one that New Line and Warner Bros. have yet to hear. The Hollywood Reporter, meanwhile, writes that the project will be a prequel focusing on the villainous character Gladys.
According to unofficial reports, Cregger has begun filming the Resident Evil remake for Sony Pictures in the Czech Republic, and will follow that with an original project titled Flood.
In Weapons, Julia Garner plays a teacher whose entire class — except for one child — rises from their beds in the middle of the night and vanishes. Josh Brolin stars as the parent of one of the missing children, searching for answers. The cast also includes Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan as the villain Gladys.
Weapons was released on August 8 and grossed $42.5 million domestically in its opening weekend. Made on a $38 million budget, the film has so far earned more than $81 million. The Resident Evil remake is slated for release in September 2026.
