Weapons Receives 100% Rating on Rotten Tomatoes Based on ‘Selected’ Reviews

According to Cinemadrame News Agency, the film Weapons, directed by Zach Cregger, has received a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes with the release of its first reviews. Warner Bros. has marketed the film with mysterious teasers and posters, much like Neon did with Longlegs, and hopes for a strong audience turnout in theaters in August.

Warner Bros. even followed Neon’s approach for Weapons by screening the film for selected critics and allowing reviews to be published over a week before the official release. However, this raises the question: if a studio is confident in its film’s success, why not screen it for all media outlets? The film’s score on Metacritic has yet to be released, as it has only been screened for one of the platform’s approved publications, Slashfilm.
Julia Garner plays a teacher whose entire class—except for one child—gets out of bed and disappears in the middle of the night. Josh Brolin plays the parent of one of these children, searching for answers. The film also stars Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cree Kawa Christopher, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan.
A critic from Inverse writes:
“Weapons is as unforgettable and intellectual as it is almost humorous, and it evokes emotions that, like the film itself, disarm the viewer.”
A CinemaBlend critic writes:
“It is both heartfelt and, on the other hand, epic; it is terrifying, and yet skillfully uses humor as a punctuation mark, and even the most devoted cinephiles will be delighted by its surprises.”

A Mary Sue critic writes:
“Although this film remains horrifying, it offers a different experience compared to Barbarian, but it is just as captivating.”
A Slashfilm critic writes:
“Weapons is a stunning blend of the distressing and the joyfully chilling, and one of the best horror films of the year.”
A CGMagazine critic writes:
“Weapons is a significant step forward for Cregger as a filmmaker. It seems he has kept what worked in Barbarian and reduced what didn’t.”
An io9 critic writes:
“It’s a mystery film that is consistently surprising and often frightening, blending moments of drama and terror into something special.”
Weapons will be released on August 8.
